Chairman of SKAP in meeting with the Sweden's public television

On November the 11th, the chairman of SKAP, Alfons Karabuda, met with the legal department of SVT, Sweden's public television, to discuss the question of authors credits.

SVT claimed that certain shows have so high frequencies of short music clips that they simply haven't room for credits (i e in the closing titles). One suggestion from the TV company was publishing the credits online instead of during - or after - the show.

From a creator's perspective, the question of authors credits has been, and still is, an important part of the moral (copy)right. Removing the credits from its musical context wouldn't exactly be a step forward in the quest for raising authors' stature…

Alfons Karabuda reports that the meeting was constructive. Among other things, a development of the credits practice was discussed. Instead of just moving the credits to a website, the television company could make better use of the web's potential, directing the viewer to the author's music online.

A work group has formed and will soon begin working out some hands-on solutions/proposals.
